The Peak District is not just a place to visit – it is an experience to savour. It is a place people keep coming back to. At Markeygate Cottages we have enjoyed the company and become great friends with many visitors who we welcome back year after year.

The Peak District offers unravelled walking, cycling and climbing and is world- renowned for its historic houses. For those who have less energy the Peak District is a fabulous place for relaxation in some of the most breathtaking scenery in England.

Chatsworth House

Tideswell in DerbsyhireThe magnificent home to the Devonshire Family. It features the House, garden, adventure playground, farm shop and superb shops and restaurant. It was recently the backdrop to the Pride and Prejudice film.

 

 

Matlock

The Heights of AbrahamFor a stunning cable car ride to the Heights of Abraham and the site of Gulliver’s Kingdom (children’s adventure park for the under 5’s), Matlock is a bustling town with lots on offer including the Peak Mining museum to see how hard life use to be!

 

 

 

 

 

Crich

Crich Tramway MuseumCrich is the place to visit the Tramway Museum. Travel on real Victorian trams along several miles of private track. There are also extensive indoor displays, old motor vehicles, trains and trams.

 

 

 

Buxton

The Cresant in BuxtonWithout doubt a stunning town and has under gone very recent transformation including the University of Derby spending £20m refurbishing the old dome. The Pavilion, Opera House and Park are outstanding with all proving a variety of things to do. Buxton is also the home to Poole’s Cavern, the dwelling of a 17th Century pirate and cannibal!

Castleton

With its 900 year old Norman Castle and choice of lead mines, this town is well worth a visit. The new Visitor Centre is a great place to take stock of the things to do as well as refresh you. Speedwell Cavern is also a must see place to visit at Castleton.

Bakewell

BakewellFamous for its pudding and a chance to wonder round the shops, eat on one of the superb restaurants and simple feed the ducks by the river. Wonderful!

 

 

Alton Towers

Alton TowersThe UK’s biggest amusement park and ideal for those with teenagers – not for the faint hearted!

Jodrell Bank

This is located near Macclesfield – see the world famous radio telescope.

Manchester United

Well somebody has to support them! Well worth a visit via a tour of the ground. Must be pre-booked.

Haddon Hall

Haddon HallTotally unspoilt medieval Manor House, including superb rose garden.

Eyam Hall

A family manor house in the plague village of Eyam, offers a courtyard, café and craft workshops.

Well Dressing

Tideswell in DerbsyhireMost of the towns in the Peak District have Well Dressing's. In Tideswell ours takes palce in June.

Carsington Water

A fantastic place to spend the day with water activities and a great visitor centre.

 

 

Markeygate Cottages
